Preschool & the Common Core
The Common Core State Standards were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and experts and have been adopted by more than 45 states and territories across the country. These standards are informed by the highest, most effective models from states across the country and countries around the world, and provide teachers and parents with a common understanding of what students are expected to learn.
The Standards provide a framework that sets clear and consistent expectations for students, parents and teachers and helps to build our children’s knowledge and skills. They set high goals for all students while preparing them for college and the workforce.
The Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks builds on the Common Core State Frameworks and provides additional standards including those for preschool. This guide provides an overview of what your child will learn by the end of preschool in English language arts/literacy and mathematics based on these standards.
